DW Box #8

After attending one of the East Carolina Native American Organization’s meetings I have learned a lot about the culture that I never would have guessed prior to going. My first thoughts before even going were that the meeting would be kind of big with around 30 to 35 members which would be mostly men, and that it would be very serious and structured. When I went to a meeting this was not the case at all. I was very surprised that the meetings were vastly different than I had originally expected. Most of the members were young women that were not serious at all. Also I was very surprised to see that there was a very low amount of order amongst the group and it barely felt like a meeting at all, but more of a casual social event. While at the meeting the thing that intrigued me the most was that the clear lack of male members, there was no more than 3 men present compared to several women. All in all I thought that the meetings were alright but the thing that disturbed me the most was that there was such a lack of order that it was almost painful to stay because of the chaos from so few people. Looking back on my observation of the meeting it couldn’t have been much more opposite of my expectations than I expected.
